Inspirational Music: What Inspires Us, How And Why?

Some say that it’s the musician and composer who are inspired, others say it’s music that inspires. No need to debate. To me, it’s like sharing the air we breathe. Isn’t that the meaning of the word “in-spire”? The composer/musician inhales the inspiration of whatever muse presents itself. Then exhales the most exquisitely inspirational music, that touches everyone who listens as they in turn are in-spired.

What music is inspirational? We think first of all of what we call “spiritual” music. This can be gospel music, hymns, Christmas carols or other music with religious affiliations. It can be traditional tunes with uplifting lyrics like “Amazing Grace”.

But truly, isn’t music medicinal, each to his own medicine? For some, it’s hip hop or rap. For others, it’s ethnic music, Irish, Greek, Punjab, or reggae. Still others are most inspired by country, bluegrass, or folk. Maybe its movie or tv soundtracks and themes, or classical, avant garde, or techno.

It doesn’t matter what kind of music inspires you, it’s what it does to you that matters. Music can open your eyes, make you think, make you think more deeply. Music can energize you, fill otherwise empty moments, and keep you company.

Maybe your life has you tied up in knots. Music can help you get through your day, unwind, solve your problems, and just take that load off your mind. It can inspire you to face yet another day…

Music can heal. The right music can fill you with awe and wonder, lift you out of your everyday life and send you soaring with the angels. It can give you hope, stimulate your imagination, and help you change your life and then change the world.

Music expresses. Music can soothe and heal by expressing commonality, humanity, compassion, and empathy. Music can take you from where you are now and gently (or emphatically!) usher you towards where you wish to be. There is comfort to be found just in knowing that someone else understands where you are and how you feel. The right music can energize you to move beyond procrastination, denial, or whatever blocks you have.

Music holds our memories. Tv commercials show us how this happens. Its easier to remember the jingle than w

hatever product was being sold; I find that’s true of jingles I heard as a child. Because music holds our memories, it has been found to be useful with those afflicted with neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer’s disease. A song with words like the familiar children’s rhyme “one, two, buckle my shoe” can help them remember simple tasks.

Lastly, the healing power of inspirational music, to me, also comes from it’s ability to open our hearts. There are songs and melodies that open our hearts to feelings that we didn’t even realize we were closed to! We can listen to something that brings us to tears when we were not feeling sad. This can be through a connection to Universal sadness or to our own personal sorrow.

The same is true of joy. A song can make us realize, “that’s what I needed!” when we had no idea. We don’t realize what we bottle up inside, until it’s been set free and we feel the sense of relief, cleansing, and renewal.

Music connects us to the ineffable, the sublime, the One that we long to reconnect with. With or without words.

So explore your music world. Close your eyes and really listen. And then open yourself up and let the music inspire you.

There is no consensus distinction or definition for these two terms. Some for example, began to use the term psychedelic trance to distinguish the newer material made by artists which were formally known to have been trance artists, but the new material by these

artists was more minimalist, and less melodic. Others use the term trance to simply distinguish those pieces which seem to incorporate more eastern or Indian melodies, to distinguish those which don’t incorporate such elements which they would call psychedelic trance.

The club and dance scenes world wide have been using trance in performances along with Goa trance, ambient trance, progressive trance, and minimalist trance. The mixture of Goa and psychedelic trance music is the popular kind of trance performance to many trance listeners. Psychedelic trance can be considered an offshoot of Goa trance.

While there is no strict definition for “trance”, songs of this genre are usually characterized by hypnotic elements (hence the name “trance”) and “anthemia” qualities. Using that as a starting point, a basic trance track could then be described as being comprised of a particular melodic and/or vocal hook which is given presence over an uncomplicated bass line, a simple drum pattern (which often includes snare and/or kick drum rolls to mark “big moments”), and perhaps one or two other semi-quantified aural elements to provide texture and enhance the rhythm. Trance also usually features more complicated chord progressions and melodies than were found in the music at the time, including 4 chord progressions symptomatic of 80’s new wave music. Trance also heavily uses sawtooth waved synthesizers more so than other genres. However, not all trances fits that profile, and often times a song’s classification as “trance” has just as much to do with who is playing it as what it sounds like. Some listeners claim the music to be euphoric and evoke spiritual feelings in them.

The basic formula of trance became even more focused on the anthemic qualities and melodies, moving away from predictable arppegiated analog synth patterns (aka acid synth lines). Acoustic elements and spacey pads became popular, compositions leaned towards incremental changes (aka progressive structures), sometimes composed in thirds (like Brian Transeau frequently does), buildups and breakdowns became more elaborate and intense. The sound became more and more ethereal and heavenly in sound. This sound came to be known as epic trance (sometimes called melodic trance or anthem trance), and became the foundation of what the modern progressive trance sound is today.

Bieber-mania sparks search for next teen sensation – Yahoo! News

What does 16-year-old Justin Bieber have in common with musical icons Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Nirvana and Britney Spears?

They all, at one time or another, have inspired record company A&R executives en masse to aggressively sign up artists who sound, and sometimes even look, decidedly like them. Dylan's brilliance sparked the signings of folkies from Donovan to Steve Forbert; Springsteen led to Joe Grushecky and John Cafferty; Nirvana minted Radish, Candlebox and countless others; Britney Spears begat Willa Ford.

Seizing on the opportunities created by a phenomenon like Bieber is nothing new, and it's certainly not unique to the music business. But in the case of Bieber and the search for the next teen heartthrob, the pace at which it's happening appears as frenzied as the girls who bum-rush Bieber for autographs after shows.

Perhaps the most extreme example is the preternaturally talented Greyson Chance, who in less than a month has secured two A-list managers and motivated a major TV personality to launch a record label. On April 28, Chance posted a YouTube video of himself covering Lady Gaga's “Paparazzi” for his sixth-grade classmates in Oklahoma. Ellen DeGeneres booked the 12-year-old — who sports a swooping, Bieber-esque haircut–for a May 13 appearance on her ABC daytime show, then brought him back May 26 to announce that she'd launched her own record label, eleveneleven, and signed Chance as her first artist.

Though Chance was rumored to have signed with Interscope the week of his first “Ellen” visit, a representative for DeGeneres says, “A partnership with a major label is still in the works.”

Chance is co-managed by Guy Oseary (Madonna) and Troy Carter (Lady Gaga). A source familiar with the deal says that no material has been recorded yet, but Chance's team is searching for music in the vein of Coldplay's “Viva la Vida.”

'LET ME TRY THIS'

Comparisons between Bieber and Chance are inevitable, given their age and online origins. But a more fitting comparison can be made with Cody Simpson, a 13-year-old from Australia signed to Atlantic. Simpson also started playing guitar and singing at a young age and was discovered last summer by an enterprising YouTube viewer: producer Shawn Campbell (Missy Elliott, Ciara).

“My parents thought it was some weirdo trying to get to me,” Simpson says, “but he seemed legit and I've been wanting to make music since I was 7, so I told my parents to let me try this.”

“I've never worked with anyone this young before, but Cody is so focused,” says Campbell, who helped Simpson get signed to Atlantic through executive vice president of A&R Mike Caren.

Caren says there's room for more than one teen male artist in the marketplace. “Justin Bieber opened the door for teen music on rhythm and pop radio,” he says. “The really talented ones can break through.”

Simpson's debut single, “iYiYiYi,” featuring labelmate Flo Rida, will be released Tuesday (June 1), and a full album is in progress. Caren says that it will be “more uptempo, energetic pop” than Bieber's R&B-driven material. “It's reminiscent of the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync sound.”

'PEOPLE ARE LESS SCARED'

Simpson is managed by Blue Williams, who also manages 15-year-old Khalil, signed to Island Def Jam Music Group's Teen Island label. The label was created for Bieber, says Kawan “KP” Prather, senior vice president of A&R at Def Jam, adding that as a result of Bieber's success, “people are less scared” to sign teen artists outside of the Disney/Nickelodeon formula.

Khalil's debut single, “Girlfriend,” was written by Sean Garrett and sent to urban and rhythm radio formats May 24, and Williams says the focus is on developing him into a long-term artist. “Justin Bieber tapped into something that we had gotten away from as an industry,” he says. “Little girls like to have artists that make them scream, whose posters they can put up on their walls. We've been so busy chasing a hit single or a hot record, we stopped making stars.”

Also on Teen Island is Aaron Fresh, a 17-year-old native of Trinidad and Tobago signed to a joint venture through Nick Cannon's Ncredible Entertainment. Fresh's debut single, the reggae-tinged “Spending All My Time,” is bubbling under the Mainstream Top 40 chart.

“The youth movement is definitely in effect right now,” says Cannon, who was introduced to Fresh through a producer. “It comes around about every 10 years, and last time it was Usher, Justin Timberlake and Beyonce. I see Aaron as a future superstar right up there with them.”

Meanwhile, even Simon Cowell appears to be on the hunt for the next Bieber. During an interview on ABC's “The Oprah Winfrey Show” before his departure from “American Idol,” the music/TV mogul revealed that “The X Factor” will come to the United States next fall with a lower age limit — 14.

Egyptian Spiritual Cleansing White Bath

I always say that the Divine cannot move new blessings into the heart when we still have it full of old stuff that no longer serves us. As humans in this modern materialistic world- we love to horde and hold on to things that no longer serve us…what kind of clutter is in your attic? We don’t often enough provide ourselves the ritual release of major or even minor things to make room for the new- and in many cases in my work I perceive that this is the sole reason things feel they should be happening but are not. Taking time to breathe out the old, inhale the new and simply ‘be’ with where you are right now is a sacred rite in and of itself that we far too often overlook. In these sacred and silent moments- the things that no longer serve our growth become clear and the strength and wisdom to let them go comes flowing through us.
In addition to identifying what we no longer need, there is a subtle energetic array that can bring us trouble. We horde things, people, ideas… and most potently- vibration. Everything we think, do , say, fear, love, obsess about, become addicted to, etc. sets an energetic form within our subtle body that we have to process. Wouldn’t it be great if we could ‘clear’ all of the gunk in our subtle bodies while at the same time creating sacred space to clear our hearts and minds as well? If this sounds good to you- read on to be right on!

What I am about to teach here is a very simple- but VERY powerful rite based loosely on ancient Kemetic (Egyptian) ritual of purification. Although the ingredients used and the ritual itself is not identical to the orthodox practice- I have found that it serves my clients and myself very well!

What you’ll need:

The bathroom and bathtub all to yourself for about 45 minutes. This means no cell phone!

A container with 1/2 cup kosher or sea salt mixed well with 1/2 cup baking soda
A metal or glass bowl- big enough to hold about a gallon of water
candles, incense, chill music as desired
a big warm towel to wrap up in after you’re done as well as freshly washed clothes to wear after your bath

Calm and center yourself before you begin
Light any candles or incense you might have chosen, and begin your music
Fill the bowl up with warm water, and have the salt/ba

king soda mix, called ‘natron’ nearby
Once the bowl is full, take a good amount of natron in each hand. As you hold it, imagine charging it with a dazzling white light. Remember that natron is made of minerals- not unlike quartz crystals or other gemstones. What you project through your hands into the natron at this time will resonate off of it in a powerful way.
Drop the natron into the water, then…
place your palms over the water and meditate/pray/charge over the water that it will bring you soul-deep cleansing- removing any unwanted or toxic thoughts, emotions, addictions, obsessions, items, people, etc. from your path- say what feels right and what you feel you need most. You are welcome to invoke a specific Deity or power during this process into the water as well
You now have a very potent spiritual/mental/emotional/physical cleanser. You may choose to add those to a full bath of water, pour cups of it over your body covering every area, etc. Do what feels right, and meditate as it goes down the drain taking all negativity back to the Earth Mother to be enlightened
Bathing seems to be the best because it allows us uninterrupted meditation and reflection time. Sitting in a full bath with the charged water added creates a highly spiritualized space for you to work on yourself, pray for guidance/healing/wisdom, simply think on your life, or just ‘be’ for a time
Once you’re done, pull the plug and spend a minute or two watching the water spiral down the drain. Get out, dry off while harnessing a deep sense of love and respect for YOU! Love and care for yourself during the drying off phase! Put on some clean clothing and go out ready to receive perfection!

You can also create this water mixture to clean items, places, etc.!

The spiritual power of the charged water is very high- and your dedication to be present with the cleansing and really look at your own journey in reflection; being completely prepared to see and feel what you do and take action on it makes this a rite of cosmic potency!

In an interview with Maurice Broadus, Jim Stovall, best-selling author of The “Ultimate Gift”, said, “it takes a life-altering event to move from religion to relationship.” Mr. Stovall further elaborated that “one’s faith has to go from a theory that you take down and polish off on Sunday mornings to something real that you can live with.” In the case of Cynthia Paddock Doroghazi, suffering through a traumatic brain injury (TBI) was the life altering event that ultimately moved her from religion to relationship.

Cynthia was in her second semester as a candidate for a master’s degree at The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in Washington, D. C. when symptoms of hydrocephalus, more commonly known as water on the brain, intruded into her daily routine. The procedure used to correct this condition is considered routine in the realm of brain surgery as the patient is in and out of the hospital in four days, with a recovery period of about two weeks.

God apparently had other plans for Cynthia. After the operation, Cynthia was transferred from the recovery room to the Neurological Concentrated Care Unit. While there, Cynthia began to hemorrhage. The bleed began to compress her brain, cutting off the flow of oxygen.

By the time the nurse in charge of Cynthia’s care perceived the gravity of Cynthia’s deteriorating condition and notified the resident on call, Cynthia was experiencing respiratory failure. Cynthia was twenty minutes away from death before the nurse called the resident on duty.

Upon examining Cynthia, the resident called a code blue, and she was rushed back into surgery, where a procedure to cut away part of her skull to evacuate the blood was performed. Cynthia slid into a coma, moving in and out of a semi-vegetative state for the next three months. At the time of her transfer from her hospital in Washington, D.C. to Magee Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia, Cynthia was paralyzed on the left side of her body, with the IQ of a vegetable, in diapers, being fed through a tube, able to remember very little and facing the prospect of having to relearn what a baby learns in the first years of life.

The events surrounding that tragic day, May 7, 1990, ultimately set Cynthia on a journey to discover who she was and for what purpose she was on this earth. In short, it brought about a spiritual awakening. Cynthia recounts this amazing journey in her recently published book, http://www.newriverpublications.com/Searching_for_the_Open_Door.html” Good News,” the Gospel, and the fact that, as an example of the ultimate sacrifice and an example of all that a parent will do to save his child, God sent his only son to live on this earth as a human and to ultimately die for the sins of the whole world so that we mortals could be reconciled forever to Him.

“Who was this God?” Cynthia asked. “Who was this God, who was so loving and self-sacrificing that he would do this? Was this the same God, she asked, “who had left me paralyzed and in a coma and forced me to abandon my chosen career path? What kind of God was this that would force me to live with a traumatic brain injury (TBI)?”

Accepting she could never answer these questions, Cynthia decided to make some sense of her own situation. So, she began to search for the meaning of her existence in an attempt to discover why she was literally saved from death. Did this God that she was hearing so much about have a plan for her life as the Old Testament of the Bible says in Jeremiah, Chapter 29, verse 11? “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” If so, what was it?

In embarking upon this search, Cynthia tried to answer the questions: “How can a person enter the hospital for what is supposed to be a routine operation and end up paralyzed on the left side of her body, in a coma, unable to walk or talk, being fed through a tube, with the I.Q. of a vegetable?” And, “How is it that same person, whom doctors predicted would be in an institution for the rest of her life and unable to continue along her chosen career path, survive the odds and live to fight another day?” How indeed?

Cynthia found inspiration from a scene from the movie, The Sound of Music. In this scene, The Mother Superior calls Maria before her to ask why she has run away from the Von Trapp family household and is seeking refuge in the convent from which she had come. The viewer ultimately discovers that Maria has fallen in love with Captain Von Trapp and, out of fear of the unknown and because she had no experience in how to deal with such a situation, she fled. The Mother Superior says to Maria, “When God shuts a door. He almost always opens a window.”

For Cynthia, the Mother Superior’s statement has transcended her life. Events in Cynthia’s past demonstrate how that statement very clearly applies to her life. As she examined the various turning points in her life: her ultimate choice of careers, her decision to leave New York and enter graduate school in Washington, D.C., the process by which she ended up at Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, even the events surrounding meeting her future husband, Cynthia began to see the possibility that there was a larger force in the universe at work, a greater Being who had a plan for her life and was constantly shaping events, leading her down a path to an ultimate, but as yet unknowable, goal, another “open door” as Cynthia characterizes it. In the end, Cynthia has come to believe that these turning points were not just a series of coincidences. Cynthia believes that these turning points were all part of a divine plan to place her where she needed to be to receive the help she needed to recover from her traumatic brain injury (TBI). Cynthia’s spiritual journey has taken her from a point of despair to a place where she enjoys true peace and contentment.

okay. I`m planning a romantic evening for My brother and his girlfriend. ^.- And I need some great songs to help me set the mood. No songs from people like “Barry White” or anything like that. I need some sort of new age songs. But nothing like rap. So any help is appreciated.
